Hello
I am Brigitte Wagner, the owner of Freeequine Saddle Fit. I grew up in Dorset and relocated to Gloucestershire for university and have stayed in this area ever since. Horses has always been my whole life and I am so fortunate to now make horses my career.
I am lucky enough to own my own horse, Khan, and together we do a bit of everything but mainly eventing.
My Story
I’ve loved horses for as long as I can remember. I spent my childhood begging
for weekly riding lessons until, at age ten, I was lucky enough to have my first
pony. From that moment on, every spare minute was dedicated to horses. So
when it came time to choose a university path, the decision was easy, it
had to be equine! I studied Equine Business Management at Hartpury
University, later advancing my education with a postgraduate master’s degree
in Equine Science. This allowed me to turn a lifelong passion into a deep
scientific understanding of horse physiology, behaviour, and performance. Throughout my studies, I explored a wide range of subjects including equine biomechanics, rehabilitation, physiology, and performance, all of which shape the way I approach saddle fitting today. This scientific foundation gives me a unique perspective: I’m able to approach saddle fit with a thorough understanding of the structures that make up the equine body and how to support healthy movement and optimal performance.
Alongside my academic background, I’ve gained hands-on experience working in a variety of yards, from high-level competition yards to riding schools, race yards, and everything in between. I’ve also owned horses for more than 15 years, giving me a practical, real-world appreciation of what horse and rider need to feel and perform their best.
After graduating in 2023, I began my journey with The Society of Master Saddles to train as a professional saddle fitter. I have completed several SMS courses, including the Qualified Saddle Fitters Course and the flocking qualification, as well as extensive shadowing and training with experienced SMS fitters. The Society of Master Saddlers is internationally recognised for its high standards in saddlery, its commitment to horse and rider welfare, and its rigorous, industry-leading training and assessments. I am proud to run my business in full accordance with the SMS Code of Conduct. which can be found ( ) I am very committed to developing my knowledge and so stay up to date with CPD courses and staying up to date with new and developing research in the equine science world.
